Kia Key Fob Tricks

Lock

Press “Lock” once to lock all the doors.
Press “Lock” twice within a two-second interval to activate your alarm system, which is confirmed by the sound of the horn.

Unlock

Press “Unlock” once to swiftly unlock just the driver’s side door.
Press “Unlock” twice within a two-second interval to quickly unlock all four doors to allow your passengers to enter.

Trunk/Liftgate

Even compact Kia models like the Rio and Rio 5-Door Hatchback are designed to optimize the available cargo space. Accessing your trunk space is simple:

Manual Trunk/Liftgate: Hold the trunk/liftgate button for just over one second. This unlocks the trunk so you can manually open it.
Power Trunk/Liftgate: Press and hold the liftgate button, and the trunk will automatically pop open! If you didn’t mean to open the trunk, pressing the button a second time directly after the initial press will prevent the liftgate from opening.

Panic Alarm

Should you ever lose track of where you parked in Apex or feel that you need to attract others’ attention your way in an uncomfortable situation, the panic alarm has you covered.

Press and hold “Panic” for a half-second or more to engage the panic alarm.
Press and hold “Panic” a second time to turn the alarm off.

Kia Key Fob Hidden Features: Hands-Free Lock/Unlock

Surely your favorite way to utilize your Kia key fob will be with the available hands-free lock/unlock feature! When you approach your Kia with your key fob on you, all you have to do is place your thumb on the handle to unlock the driver’s side door. This is fantastic when the weather is bad or you have your hands full, allowing you to quickly hop into your vehicle without fumbling around for keys.

What to Do With a Low Kia Key Fob Battery

The Kia key fob battery may eventually need replacing. When your battery is low, you can still get into your vehicle using the mechanical key tucked inside the key fob cover, but you will eventually want to carry out a Kia key fob battery replacement.

How to Open Kia Key Fob – If your key fob is completely out of battery, you can access the mechanical key by pushing the indicated button on the back of your Kia key fob.

How Do I Reset My Kia Key Fob?

If you suddenly can’t utilize the primary Kia key fob tricks or your hands-free lock/unlock service isn’t working, you will first want to try the above instructions to replace the battery. If you replace the battery and still can’t get into your vehicle using the buttons on the Kia key fob or the hands-free function, you may just need to reprogram the Kia key fob with your vehicle. Your next question will likely be, “How do I reset my Kia key fob?” Fortunately, it’s a simple process!

Enter the driver’s side and ensure all your doors are completely shut. Insert your key into the ignition.
Turn the key from off to on in the ignition repeatedly until you hear the door locks cycle. You should end the process with the key turned to the on position.
Try pressing the lock or unlock button on the Kia key fob. If the doors respond by locking or unlocking (depending on which button you pressed), the key fob has been successfully reprogrammed.
Turn the key back to the off position in the ignition. The door locks should cycle again, indicating the end of the programming sequence.
