How to Replace Windshield Wipers

Windshield Wipers

Typically, windshield wipers last six to twelve months. A variety of factors can make the rubber blades wear down sooner, like exposure to snow, ice, rain, salt, and extreme temperatures in Raleigh. When your windshield wipers start to wear down, you can confirm that’s the issue by checking for signs of wear and tear, like:

  • Cracked Rubber
  • Scratches to Windshield Glass
  • Loose Chunks of Blade
  • Separated Blades
  • Screeching Noise
  • Gaps in Windshield Clearing

If you notice signs of damage, schedule an appointment at our service center to get your windshield wipers replaced. Or, you can order windshield wipers through our parts department and learn how to replace windshield wipers yourself.

Maybe You Just Need to Clean Your Windshield Wipers

If you think that may be the case, pull up your windshield wiper blades and run your finger across it. If you feel dirt and debris, wash it off and see if that fixes any problems you may be having. However, if you see that pieces of the blades are missing, then you should get them replaced.

How to Remove Windshield Wipers

When learning how to replace windshield wipers, the process is very simple. This is an inexpensive fix and our parts specials make getting your hands on an OEM part more cost-effective in the Apex area. Changing your windshield wipers is a simple process. Here are the steps for how to replace windshield wipers:

  1. Position your windshield wipers so they’re upright.
  2. Pull them carefully away from the windshield.
  3. Read the instructions on your windshield wipers’ packaging for how to remove them. You’ll either have to depress a tab to pull it off or slide it off with the wiper arm.
  4. Discard the old wiper blades.
  5. Clean your windshield thoroughly to prevent dust and dirt from getting on your new windshield wipers.
  6. Install the new windshield wipers by doing the reverse of steps two and three.
  7. Replace the blade on the other side.
  8. Carefully return your windshield wipers back in their regular position.

Replacing your windshield wipers should only take a few minutes, but if you prefer to have them installed professionally, a member of our service team is happy to do it when you come in for your routine service.
