Kia Dashboard Lights

Most of the time, if you see a Kia warning light symbol while out in Durham, you’ll be relieved to know that it’s not a major issue. Sometimes, it’ll just be on because you’ve got cruise control on or your high beams are activated. A Kia warning light with an exclamation point and triangle could mean several different things. Telling the difference between a Kia malfunction indicator light and a system light can be found in the following list.

  • Malfunction (Engine Malfunction) Indicator Lamp: This is another word for the Kia check engine light, meaning there’s an emission issue or something else wrong with your engine.
  • Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light: If you don’t have the right pressure on your engine oil, the light will light up. Without proper oil volume, you’ll be at risk of overheating or engine damage, so add oil as soon as possible.
  • Electric Power Steering (EPS) Warning Light: If you see this light coming on or if you need to really work to get your steering right, this means your power steering system has malfunctioned.
  • ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) Warning Light: If you’ve got an issue with your ABS system, you’ll see ABS within a circle and parentheses. If the light pops up and stays on, it means you need to get your brake system looked at.
  • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Malfunction Indicator: If you see the Kia TPMS light, a horseshoe type symbol with an exclamation point in the middle, you’ve got low tire pressure. If it flashes, that means you can’t get a good read on the tire pressure due to a malfunction.
  • Airbag Warning Light: If “AIRBAG” is on, that means there’s an issue with your airbags. Get your vehicle looked at right away if you see this!
  • Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light: If you see this on in red, you’ve got an overheated engine. Pull over as soon as you can and don’t drive any further. Overheating is very dangerous for your car and, by extension, for yourself. This is something we can take care of at Hendrick Kia of Cary.
